NBA Draft Rants

After watching last night’s NBA Draft, I’ve decided that I am not too entirely sold on Derrick Rose. To me, he has ‘BUST’ written all over him. The Bulls are already stacked with guards, Kirk Hinrich, Chris Duhon, Ben Gordon, Larry Hughes, JamesOn Curry, and now their newest acquisition Derrick Rose.

Last offseason, they lost Tyson Chandler and two years before they traded away Eddie Curry to the Knicks. The Bulls big men consist of Tyrus Thomas, Joakim Noah, former N.C. State center Cedric Simmons, Drew Gooden, and former Duke stud Luol Deng, Aaron Gray, and of course Andres Nocioni. Do you really think they can win a championship with this mold?

They need a replacement for Tyson Chandler, and Michael Beasley would have fit that bill perfectly. He would definitely be a better offensive player than Chandler was in Chicago, and the Bulls could have won immediately with Beasley.

Imagine a team of: Hinrich—Point Guard, Ben Gordon—SG, Beasley—C, Deng—Small Forward, and Gooden—PF. With a bench of Duhon, Hughes, Thomas, Noah, and Nocioni. They won’t be the un-stop-a-BULLS, but I think they would match up better with Beasley as their top pick instead of Derrick Rose.

Something about his 15.8 points per game doesn’t really impress me. It seems like every single team is trying to find the next Deron Williams and Chris Paul instead of just developing the point guard talent that they already have into the next Deron Williams and Chris Paul.

The Bulls will win with Rose in the lineup, but it wont be for another two to three years or so. I don’t see Rose becoming an All-Star in the league, and I really hope I’m wrong with that.

I have high hopes for Beasley and I really think he can come in and be a 20 and 10 kind of guy, which is exactly what the Bulls need.

Watch out for the Miami Heat next season. Shawn Marion, Dwyane Wade, and Michael Beasley could be the next ‘Big 3’ in the Eastern Conference. The Heat have a talented bunch—Jason Williams at Point Guard, Wade at Shooting Guard, Alonzo Mourning (if he comes back) in the middle, surrounded by Beasley and Marion at the forward spots—I don’t think they’ll win the title next year, but I definitely think they will be back in the playoffs if all three can stay healthy.

To me, the overall draft class was weak. It was still exciting to watch and entertaining to see all the trades, the suits, and the interviews, but overall I think this was a really weak class. Imagine the hype surrounding next year’s draft when Ellington, Lawson, Green, and Hansbrough from UNC are being drafted.

Nothing irritates me more than Michael Jordan picking some French guy with the 20th pick and ANOTHER point guard with the ninth pick. Come on, dude. Next year, the Bobcats will be back in the Draft Lottery once again, and they will make a crappy pick once again. Sigh.

Seriously, what the hell is this guy thinking? I’m not too upset with the pick for DJ Augustin at number nine, but I am a little ticked off at the Alexis Ajinka, a guy who averaged five points and five boards in the French Leagues. And what’s worse is that he is a center.

Maybe there is some blockbuster deal in the works for the Bobcats. I’ve heard through ESPN reports (I’ve always wanted to say that) that the Bobcats are trying to work out a deal to send Raymond Felton and Sean May to Cleveland. They didn’t say who for, but my guess is Ben Wallace (he’d fit in perfectly with Larry Brown since he played under Brown in Detroit). I pray to God that this is not true.

Wait, wait. I know what would be perfect. Trade away Ajinka, Augustin, Felton, May, Okafor, and Jared Dudley to the Memphis Grizzlies and reacquire Kwame Brown and cash. Then, Michael could build his team around Brown the way he wanted to in Washington.

Congratulations, MJ. Great player, you were. Horrible GM, you are. Michael Jordan is trying to win the ’08-’09 Isaiah Thomas award for General Managers. What an honor.

First Kwame Brown in Washington and now Alexis Ajinka?

Thanks a lot, Michael.

  1. Did you hear how LB got the job?

MJ: So you got fired again, eh?

Larry Brown: Oh yeah. They always freak out when you call your PG an asshole in the Daily News, ya know?

MJ: Yeah…Well I lost my job too.

LB: Maaaan…You are one pathetic loser. No offense.

MJ: No…None taken. You know what really chaps my ass though. I spent my life savings on a horrible basketball team.
