You know I just don’t get it.
A few years ago, a kind young man by the name of Terrell Owens wanted out of Philadelphia after guiding them to the Superbowl and caused this huge beef with Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb.
It got so bad that at one point, T.O. was thrown out of training camp by Eagle head coach Andy Reid. He then caused a spectacle and worked out in front of his home, creating a media frenzy.
T.O. decided that he wanted more money from the Eagles and consistently criticized McNabb’s efforts in the Superbowl against the Patriots.
He was then suspended for four games, and then deactivated after he served the suspension. At the end of the season, he was released by the Eagles and he signed with the Dallas Cowboys.
Owens also had major problems in San Francisco with quarterback Jeff Garcia and also with head coach Steve Mariucci. Even with the 49ers, he turned down an offer to be traded to the Baltimore Ravens because he wanted to play for a winner.
People sneered and condemned Owens for his antics in Philadelphia and San Francisco.
Flash forward to today.
Brett Favre is causing quite a spectacle in Green Bay and is doing everything in his power to make the Packers out to be the bad guy because they might not want him back.
Dude, you retired. Get over it and move on.
He is calling out coach Mike McCarthy on Fox News’ ‘On the Record with Greta Van Susteren,’ and is also taking cheap shots at the Packers management for not giving him what he wants.
If Brett Favre wanted to play so bad, then don’t retire. Simple as that. All he had to say was, “I’m coming back.” And the Green Bay Packers wouldn’t be having the problems their having with the ‘legendary’ Hall of Fame quarterback.
He is looking like Terrell Owens, but people are not condemning him and they sure as heck aint sneering him. Apparently, he has earned the rights to be a complete tool and T.O. hasn’t because of his Hall of Fame ‘status’.
Apparently, Favre’s legendary status in the National Football League make him capable of treating the fans, the town of Green Bay, the league, and the team management like complete morons.
Favre quit on the team, he quit on the coaching staff and management, and more importantly, he quit on the fans. All because he didn’t get his way, much like T.O.
But T.O. is such a distraction? T.O. has this horrible ‘off-the-field persona?’ T.O. has baggage?
I’m not buying it. Brett Favre is just as bad, if not worse than Terrell Owens any day of the week.
He quit on his team because they didn’t do what he wanted, which was getting Randy Moss. The very next day, March 3 (the day after yours truly’s birthday), Favre announced that he was retiring from the game of football putting on these crocodile tears to make everyone feel sorry for him.
Now, he wants to come back and expects everyone to drop everything and give it to him? He expects to be the starter, he expects to be paid, and he expects everyone to forget the fact that he choked away the NFC championship.
He refuses to be the backup QB behind Aaron Rodgers, yet he is OK with the fact that the Packers want to move on. He demands to be released and the Packers won’t give it to him, yet he is angry because he fears that he’s going to be traded to a crummy team.
That, right there, is what I don’t get.
Favre doesn’t want to play for a crummy team, yet he quit on the Packers (after going 13-3 in the regular season and finishing oh-so-close to the Superbowl) for not getting Randy Moss. Now, he doesn’t want to play for a team like the Dolphins, the Ravens, or the Falcons?
Brett Favre’s scared that he’s going to be traded to a bad team, but he retired from the Packers and didn’t want to play for the team that hosted the NFC Championship last year? You want to have a choice as to where you’ll end up, when you could have stayed with the Packers this year and quite possibly could have won a Superbowl.
Brett Favre is a complete sell out and is acting like a spoiled baby but for some unknown reason, Packer fans want Favre to play over Aaron Rodgers. It seems like they forgot that this guy quit on them a few months ago and now he wants back in.
T.O., Randy Moss, Chad Johnson and even Jason Taylor all must be wondering what Favre has that they don’t. How can he get away with being a spoiled, rotten, immature, 38-year-old quarterback who must have his way or its the highway, but yet the fans still want him around.
Favre is putting himself in front of the team, and to me, that shows his true character. Yet, people still love him and want him around. However, when T.O. does this same exact thing, everyone hates him. Chad Johnson is acting like a baby in Cincinnati right now, and people are bashing his character. Randy Moss was the same as T.O. a few years ago with the Vikings and people trashed him.
I used to think of Brett Favre as a guy who was all about the team first and a guy who wanted to win. Now, I think of him as just another spoiled, rotten, athlete who doesn’t like being told no.
Enjoy your season without Favre, Green Bay. Get rid of that guy.

Hmm…I think this is a bit of a stretch. Plenty of athletes retire only to realize they weren’t ready. All Favre wants is out and the Packers won’t budge, so to make Favre the villain (a T.O. level villain at that) is not right.

We’ll just agree to disagree. Favre has every right to come back if he wants to, but there are more professional and mature ways to go about it. Maybe, he really is the victim in the situation. There are better ways he could have gone about returning and he didn’t use them.
